This positive news comes on the tail of double digit declines during the previous two years.

The latest issue of AMSA's Industry Trends shows that privately arranged household goods moves rose nearly five percent; while the number of relocations arranged by corporate account were up by four percent, and up 17 percent in October, over October, 2009.

“After several difficult years for the professional moving industry, it looks like we may end 2010 on the upswing,” said Linda Bauer Darr, AMSA president and CEO. “Although individual shipments were flat for October, they were up about five percent for the entire year.”

This supports the latest data released by the several of the nation's top national van lines for interstate moving activity in 2010. The national movers group collects it's information from member companies as well as from other sources.

The AMSA represents over 3200 domestic and international moving and storage companies that provide professional household goods moving and storage services and specialized transportation for sensitive freight for customers worldwide. The national association is responsible for implementing and managing the industry's ProMover quality service and consumer protection program.

AMSA's Industry Trends is the only publication to cover the economics of the U.S. moving and storage sector in depth. It is updated and published quarterly.

The fall 2010 issue, for instance, analyzes the latest data from the federal government's Economic Census in various segments of the moving industry, including revenues, salaries and number of employees. The publication examines geographic trends in the location of the booking agent by Metropolitan Statistical Area; and aggregates the most popular shipping channels for the first three quarters of 2010 for different shipment types.

The latest issue also highlights the Southwest region of the United States and includes statistics on household goods shipments in distance and for new and existing home sales.

Industry Trends is available to AMSA members for the yearly rate of $275, and $550 for non-members. For subscription information, contact AMSA at (800) 849-2672 or visit www.promover.org.
