Fraudulent USDOT Letters

By • Feb 19th, 2009 • Category: *RELOCATION NEWS UPDATES*, Department of Transportation (DOT), FMCSA, Scam

This morning’s Inbox contained a timely warning from Patricia McLaughlin’s IMAWA Bulletin Board. Pat’s a long-time friend of the moving industry, small business mentor and advocate, and the veteran Executive Director of the Illinois Movers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. Above all else, she’s involved.

The note said that her office had received numerous reports about another round of fraudulent letters issued to U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) contractors and potential contractors purporting to be issued by DOT.

Usually arriving by mail, these fraudulent letters are sent to current or potential DOT government contractors advising them that they must register by submitting their company’s financial information on a release form entitled, “Authorization to release financial information”. Click here for an example of the latest fraudulent letter and release form.

The DOT does not require any financial information to be submitted in order to be eligible for procurement. If you receive such a notification, contact the Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General Hotline at 1-800-424-9071 immediately.
