Hillside, Illinois–Greg Hoover today was named Chief Executive Officer of Bekins Van Lines, taking the reins of the oldest van line in the moving industry.

In his new role, Hoover will build upon the nationwide strength of a company founded in 1891 by brothers John and Martin Bekins. The company has many firsts in its history, including using the first motorized moving trucks instead of horse-drawn wagons, and installing the first nationwide warehouse and storage management system to track orders. Hoover, an expert in new technologies and inventive programs, will reassert Bekins’ historic emphasis on innovation.

"Greg is not a status quo manager, and we needed someone to help Bekins find new solutions," said Doug McGrath, president of Worldwide Relocation Services in Smithfield, North Carolina, and a Bekins board member who served on the CEO search team. "Greg is one of the highest-quality leaders in our industry, and we know he will make smart choices about where Bekins–and our changing industry–are going."

Hoover was most recently president and COO of Atlas World Group, which he joined in 1999 after serving as president and COO of an Atlas agent, ABC Moving and Storage.

"Choosing someone of Greg’s caliber to lead us makes a tremendous statement about Bekins’ future," said David Caruso, a Bekins board member who led the CEO search and is president of Bekins A-1 Movers, based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. "Greg is cutting-edge, and hiring him shows that Bekins is serious about getting back to a position of prominence."

Hoover is also known as a marketing-savvy leader. "Greg’s ability to listen to clients and steer them to solutions is second to none," said McGrath.

Hoover’s hometown is Mentone, Indiana, and he earned a bachelors degree from Huntington University. He assumes his new duties immediately.
