Moishes Moving Movie Madness 2 CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT: The science of priceRecently you were invited to listen to an in-depth interview that New England Cable News (NECN.com) conducted with the President of the Gentle Giant Moving Company.  In the three part series, Larry O’Toole shared his thoughts on the impact the recession has had on the moving business in general and on his Boston based company in particular.

Not to be outdone, the BBC recently traveled across the pond to pick Eugene LeMay’s brain. During the "Up All Night" interview, the CEO of Moishe’s Moving and Storage talks about how his local Big Apple based moving company calculates their price. In a market famous for its logistic challenges, it’s interesting to hear his take on why more and more customers are taking a hand in their ‘full service’ move.

During the eight minute long exchange, Mr. LeMay also shares his thoughts on how the recession is affecting Moishe’s business growth. If interested, you can find the entire interview here while you read Gene’s impressions at his blog

Meanwhile NYC residents interested in participating in Moishes’ Moving Moving Madness contest are running out of time. The contest is set to end October 15th.

Using an advertising gimmick successfully introduced by several auto and technology companies, Moishe’s is encouraging their customers to document their entire relocation experience in video. Sort of like a relocation diary.

The winner of the competition, as chosen by fans on at the company’s Facebook page, Moishe’s Moving, will have their submission published on Moishe’s company web page.  The big prize, however, is that they'll have the cost of their entire move refunded to them in full!

I’ll be interesting to see how this marketing idea plays out. So far there haven’t been a flood of entries. But that could be because some of New York’s best amateur videographers are honing their craft and perfecting their technique to ensure a full refund of their moving costs. You have to listen to the entire podcast to understand why grabbing that prize could be very, very important for those who choose to participate in the contest.
