Bekins Van Lines Announces New Recapitalization Plan

R.I.P. – Families First

Well, sorta.

Due to a trademark infringement issue, the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) announced on December 8th that they will not longer refer to the new DOD household goods program as Families First. The new program that the Defense Personal Property System (DPS) supports will now be called the Defense Personal Property Program, or DP3.

The second phase of Families First, the military’s newest household goods procurement program, got off to a shaky start at 18 Department of Defense installations on November 19, 2008 after undergoing a number of long and aggravating delays. These were caused by problems uncovered during the testing in Phase I.
